The Antico Mercato was built at the end of the 19th century and served as the location of the public market. Around the 1950s, vendors moved to Upper Ragusa, and the Antico Mercato remained empty. Today, after 70 years, the shops are reopening, once again hosting artisanal and commercial activities that share a common theme: the setting bridging the late 19th and early 20th centuries, transporting you to a glimpse of a Sicilian village of that era where you can observe and experience life as it was at that time. At theAntico Mercato, you can visit the ethnographic museum, purchase local and handcrafted products, participate in offered workshops, or sit at one of the tables in the wine tavern to enjoy a glass of genuine wine or taste local gastronomic products.
